In recent years, hard silver plating has been attracting attention as a charging terminal for EVs due to its hardness and low electrical resistance.

It has high light reflectance and is also used for LED backlight peripheral parts of automobiles. For its high wear resistance, it is used for charging connectors and terminals of EVs.

Contact resistance can be reduced to the utmost by using it for the bus bar of connecting parts.

Low electrical resistance
Silver plating has favorable electrical characteristics.
Since it has the lowest electrical resistance of any metal, it is often used for electrical contacts.
As electrification progresses, there are increasing cases where it is used at important contact points in order to minimize energization loss.

Hard silver plating
It is a soft metal, but its hardness can be increased by introducing adding additives.
Generally, adding elements such as selenium and antimony to harden the plating film can reduce wear due to sliding.
Brightened silver is widely used for reflecting plates because of its excellent LED light reflection characteristics.
Taking advantage of its softness, matte silver plating is also used to seal metal and prevent seizure of stainless steel screws.
Utilization for Evs
Adopting conventional tin plating for the terminals used in electric vehicles brings about high electrical resistance, and decreased reliability due to the rubbing of the film by vibration. With the lowest electrical resistance of all metals, silver is an ideal material for cable terminals of EVs that require high current.
In order to prevent rubbing due to vibration, it is necessary to harden the film. But if selenium or antimony is added as a hardener, electrical resistance increases resulting in poorer performance than expected.
We analyze and manage the hardener components in the plating solution. If necessary, GDOES (Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy) can be used to analyze and manage the content of the hardener component in the plating film. As for glossy silver, the distribution profile of brightener in the film changes with time, and the film becomes soft. We can minimize the reduction in hardness using such controls.
Connectors have a male terminal and a female terminal, but for the female terminal, it is important to plate the inner diameter of the terminal.
We can plate the inner diameter parts using a special jig for partial plating to improve the reliability of the terminals.
